Steel beams going in

The first floor will only partially be supported by the existing walls. For the most part, it will rest on some very substantial steel beams. Some of these beams will span the block, running east-west. Another, the biggest of all, will run north-south to support the first floor wall which is set back from the boundary and is right over the vast open space of the downstairs living area.
