SQ business class MEL/SIN on the 777-300ER

The 777 is a nice ride... SQ business class is a nice ride... put the two together and you've got a great ride!

I arrived a couple of hours before my midnight departure on SQ218. Time to wander around the terminal and do a bit of lounge hopping. I prefer the NZ lounge at MEL to the SQ lounge - it's more spacious with a contemporary design and better food & drink offering. But I thought I should at least try the snacks in the SQ lounge:

The business class cabin on the SQ 777-300ER is split into two - two rows behind first class and before the J galley, and many rows after the J galley. The first row of J class offers more room so it's the obvious choice. My preference is the windowseat, but with SQ's new J - four abreast - every seat is also an aisle seat.

The J seats on the SQ 777-300ER and A380 are wide! Some complain, but complaining about the excessive width of an aircraft seat is right up there with complaining about too much money. Get over it, I say. It's nothing that a few pillows can't fix (the too-much-width that is, not too-much-money... you'd be an idiot to solve a too-much-money problem with pillows).

What more could you ask for? Well, first class I guess, but one shouldn't be greedy.

In fact, when I boarded there was a ground staff person standing in my little seat area. She said "Oh, I'm in your seat?" and I replied "No problem... there's room for two". She just laughed and said she could only dream of sitting in that seat. I was about to tell her I bought a deeply discounted ticket... but thought better of it.

Flying SQ J you can book the cook... which I did... but I also wanted to try one of the menu items: Braised egg noodles with prawns, scallops, sliced fish and mushrooms. Singapore Sling was my drink of choice.

My book-the-cook selection was the Indian lamb shank curry and basmati rice (with another Singapore Sling). It was pretty good. Not quite meat-falling-off-the-bone good, but not bad at all.

Why I decided to sample this much food I have no idea. But by then I was starting to feel sleepy so it was time to get out of my seat, pull down the seat back and, hey presto, there's my bed!

Slept pretty much like a baby until we were on descent into Singapore.
