HKG/BKK/MEL in TG Economy and Royal Silk

A full ship meant an economy flight from HKG to BKK - 2.5 hours in the air and I coped OK ;-)

At BKK I enjoyed a massage - just the thing before a long flight - and then made the hike from the Royal Silk Spa to the Royal Silk Lounge on concourse E. And it is a hike... but a pleasant one at that. A quick stop in the concourse E Royal Silk Lounge to check my voicemail before boarding and taking my Royal Silk seat for the run down to Melbourne.

The amenity kit bag has changed yet again - same contents, as far as I can see.

First serving
  • # Marinated salmon, tossed brown soba noodles, smoked french ham with melon balls, mirin dressing in tomato
  • Lamb noisette with fresh peppercorn, pan-fried spatzley, carrot, zucchini and pumpkin
    or
    # Stir-fried pork neck with leek in Sichuan style, oriental fried rice, stir-fried vegetables in oyster sauce
    or
Three colour pasta with chicken ragout in cream basil sauce, grated with Parmesan
    or
Stir-fried prawn with garlic and pepper, premium steamed Thai hom mali rice, taiwanese cabbage
  • Assorted breads - french bread roll, laugen roll with sesame, french garlic bread, butter
  • Cheese tray/crackers
  • Fresh fruits
  • Pandon sago seed / water chestnut with cocoanut cream
  • Tea, coffee, espresso, cappucino
I was indifferent about the first course, but the main was very nice. Could have done with a bit more chilli. I skipped on the dessert but lulled my way off to sleep with cheese and port.... and didn't wake until we were 1 hour and 20 minutes out of MEL.

Second serving
  • # Fresh fruits and fruit yoghurt
  • Spanish omelette, premium chicken sausage, vegetable nuget
    or
Baked half tomato with olive oil and oregano
    or
Wild boar with pistachio, black forest pepper salami, butcher ham, emmenthal cheese
    or
    # Noodle soup with fish and shrimp balls
  • Assorted breads: Soya bean roll, buttered croissant, assorted danish pastries
  • Tea, coffee, Ovaltine
At the end of a long flight, I tend to skip the heavy meal choices (it's not as if I've burned up much energy just sitting there) and go for the noddles - they really are quite tasty and are probably the healthiest choice on the menu. I was tempted to try the Ovaltine... but instead went for a capp.

Ontime arrival into MEL and I was quickly through immigration. I came eighth in the luggage lottery - not bad - was was leaving the airport with 15 minutes of the wheels hitting the runway.
