Through the generosity of the organisation I was working with, I had at my disposal a shiny black Audi A6 with driver for my day of siteseeing. They also made available one of their staff members to show me around the city. And a very good friend from Melbourne kindly arranged for an old college friend of hers to be my guide (the stunning Yolanda).
Now I used to think plying the world’s airways in the first class cabin of a 747-400 was a pretty good way to validate one’s existence… but it turns out that touring one of the world’s great cities in a shiny black Audi A6 in the company of two beautiful girls is a whole lot better. As I said, wo ai Beijing.
The day included visits to the magnificent Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium and the remarkable Water Cube. While the latter was brilliant, the first was truly humbling. A piece of architecture and human ingenuity to rival the great cathedrals of Europe. Simply magnificent.

Here's a quick video from inside... note instrumental Moon River playing over the loud speaker system. Couldn't get this song out of my head all day (nicer version here in case you're interested)
Out by the Olympic park, I noticed some trees tightly wrapped up for the winter. Nice to be a tree in Beijing, I suppose!
With the stunning Yolanda, I also paid a visit to Tian An Men Square and the Forbidden City, both imposing (now public) places. One can only wonder at the effect they had on Beijing citizens and visitors 500 years before today.

Moon River in Bird Nest shouldn't be a good match, more energtic music like Friday Night Fever may be better.
By the way, Audrey was Stunning together with the sweet Moon River.
About the tree, be4 u mention it, I thought it's universal... When I was young, there was an hour class of making those ropes at school.
Here in my hometown, we also print the bottom part of tree white with lime, to pretect trees from worm.
:)) Never see it in Melbourne.
